How to Get A Training Approved

Training Approval Process Information

Who needs approved training hours?
Most providers receiving state sexual assault core and/or specialized funding from OCVA are required to attend a minimum of 12 hours of WCSAP-approved ongoing training annually. This includes staff and volunteers of Community Sexual Assault Programs (CSAP’s), education and prevention staff and group leaders.

This process is not required for clinicians or clinical trainings.

How does the approval process work?
WCSAP reviews training approval applications for training events that are not already pre-approved. Applications for training approval are accepted by WCSAP on an ongoing basis. Applicants will receive written notification of the decision within 30 days. It is not necessary for training participants to submit individual applications for the same training event. Once a training event is approved it is approved for all training participants.

Who approves trainings?
WCSAP staff review applications anonymously and make decisions regarding training approval based on criteria established by the Program Development Committee (PDC), an advisory committee of sexual assault service providers in Washington.

What are the criteria for approval?
The basic requirement for approval is applicability to sexual assault service provision. Trainings must be consistent with the mission and philosophy of WCSAP, and must specifically address and/or relate to the provision of sexual assault services, including crisis intervention, advocacy, treatment, and education services. In order to be approved an application must demonstrate how the training enhances the applicant’s ability to provide services related to sexual assault.

What if my application for approval is denied?
If an application for approval is denied, the applicant may submit an appeal within 30 days.

How do I find out if a training event has already been approved?
A list of all 2004-2005 approved trainings and previously-approved training events is available from WCSAP. Please contact the Advocacy Education Director at WCSAP for more information.
