Advocate Core Sexual Assault Training Curriculum Certification
Overview of Certification Process
The Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs (WCSAP)
oversees the certification of core sexual assault training curriculum
provided by sexual assault programs in Washington. Curriculum certification
exists in order to ensure a consistent standard of quality training for
sexual assault service providers across the state. Curriculum certification
is available for any program that provides training regarding the provision
of sexual assault services. Upon certification, applicants will receive
written notification documenting their curriculum’s certification.
The requirements for certification include the following:
- The training must be at least 30 hours in length, incorporating the
minimum number of hours in each cluster (see Cluster
Topics list for more information).
- All of the topics identified in each of the clusters must be included
in the curriculum.
- Training methods utilized should include a combination of lecture,
discussion, skill building, and skills practice.
- Supplemental resources (e.g. audio-visual resources, articles, books,
and other written materials) should be current and relevant to the provision
of sexual assault services.
- When supplemental resources are used, the training should include
at least one hour of debriefing, discussion, or skill building for every
5 hours of exposure to audio-visual and/or written materials
(a ratio of at least 1:5).
- The mission statement of the program/organization should demonstrate
a commitment to social change and to ending sexual violence. Having
such a mission statement is a fundamental element for WCSAP membership.
Applicants who are not already members of WCSAP will be asked to submit
a mission statement with their application.
Following is an overview of the three parts of the application. All
three parts must be completed for the application to be reviewed.
Part I: Program/Organization Information
Provide complete program/organization name, mailing address, and contact
information.
If your program is not already a member of WCSAP, please provide a program/organization
mission or philosophy statement. This mission/philosophy statement should
demonstrate the program/organization’s commitment to social change
and to ending sexual violence.
Part II: Training Outline/Curriculum
Provide a complete outline/curriculum which is used for the core sexual
assault training. The outline/curriculum should clearly identify:
- Topics covered and number of hours (or parts of hours) spent on each
topic.
- Training methods utilized (e.g. lecture, discussion, skill building
and skills practice, supplemental resources)
- Titles and publication dates of supplemental resources (e.g. audio-visual
resources, articles, books, and other written materials)
Part III: Training Hours by Cluster
Complete the Training Hours by Cluster grid. Document the number of hours
(or parts of hours) spent on each topic, and identify the section of the
outline/curriculum in which the topic is covered. All topics in each of
the clusters should be included for the minimum number of hours noted.
