Building Relationships & Resources with Tribal Communities

male survivor issues of connections cover page

This issue of Connections focuses on advocacy with Tribal communities. The Department of Justice reports that Native Americans are two and one-half times more likely to experience sexual assault than all races in the United States combined. This is especially relevant in Washington, where the National Congress of American Indians lists 29 federally recognized Indian Tribes and one additional state-recognized Tribe. It is imperative for community sexual assault advocates to understand how to work effectively with Tribal communities to support Native American survivors and end sexual violence against Native American people.
