Let's Talk About Sex: Affirming Healthy Sexual Development and Expression


This webinar will educate participants about the basics of healthy sexual development and teen and emerging adult sexual expression, address myths about survivors of sexual abuse or assault and sexuality, and coach participants about how to talk with young people they are helping about sex and sexuality more comfortably, and in ways that affirm the sexualities of those people, and help support them in creating their own wanted, safe and satisfying sexual lives.

Workshop Objectives:

  • To become more comfortable and confident talking about sexuality with the young people you serve
  • To gain greater awareness of our own attitudes and biases, as well as any myths you may believe about survivors and sexuality, so that you can manage them
  • To learn what healthy sexual development and healthy sexuality for young people is and involves

Trainer: Heather Corinna

Heather Corinna is the founder of Scarleteen, one of the first and longest running web-based organizations providing sex education online. Heather is also the author of the popular young adult sexuality and relationships guide, S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-to-Know Sexuality Guide to Get You Through Your Teens and Twenties and a writer and contributing editor for the 2011 edition of Our Bodies, Ourselves. Heather has been an alternative and award-winning educator since the early 90s, most recently honored with the Joan Helmich Educator of the Year award, The Woodhull Foundation's Vicki Award, the Steinem-Waters Award and the Golden Brick Award. They’ve written for or been featured in numerous publications such as The Utne Reader, The City Pages, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Chicago Tribune, CNN, The Nation, Feministing, The Minnesota Women's Press, The Boston Phoenix, Ms. Magazine, The New York Times, Bust and Bitch.
