Prevalence of Sexual Assault in WA

Sexual victimization is a common experience for women in Washington State with nearly 40% of women reporting that they have been victims of rape, attempted rape, forced sexual contact or child sexual abuse at some time in their lives.  Close to a third of experiences involve multiple episodes and one fifth of women have had more than one sexual assault experience.  This translates to half of the victims being sexually assaulted more than one time.

For more information please see Sexual Assault Experiences and Perceptions of Community Response to Sexual Assault: A Survey of Washington State Women , Executive Summary, Office of Crime Victims Advocacy (October 2001). Berliner, Lucy.
