Money, Money, Money!

Money, Money, Money!

We had a wonderful Managers' Institute this past April on the basics of financial management for sexual assault programs. I'd like to follow up by offering some resources related to the issue every executive director and manager worries about: money.

Internal Controls Checklist
Internal controls are vital for ensuring accuracy and integrity in your financial functions. This free checklist from Compass Point has practical questions to help you ensure your internal controls are robust and effective.
The Role of Nonprofit Board Members in Revenue Generation
Do you ever wish your board members would be more proactive about helping you meet your program's financial needs? This online course for board members by Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, available just until August 15, is free with a subscription to the online Blue Avocado newsletter (also free), which offers other financial information resources as well.
Financial Management - The National Council of Nonprofits
This excellent webpage contains links to a wide array of resources on topics such as budget basics, financial management self-assessment, policy development, financial literacy for boards, managing cash flow, overhead, internal controls, operating reserve policies, and investment policies.
Nonprofit Bookkeeping and Accounting for Dummies Cheat Sheet
This "Dummies" Cheat Sheet can help smart people (like you!) stay on track. You may want to print it out and post it near your desk. It lists reminders of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial tasks for nonprofits. It's a great starting place for new managers, and may be useful for any busy sexual assault program director.
