Therapist Core Training (Spokane)

This 23 hour training will satisfy the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy Core Training requirements for therapists treating victims of sexual assault/abuse. Prior to this training, participants must complete a 6 hour online training course. 

Schedule:

  • Day One –  Will focus on underlying conditions of sexual assault and the training will begin at 10:30 am and end at 5:00 pm. Registration begins at 10am.
  • Day Two – Will focus on adult victims; and the training will go from 8:30am until 5:00pm.
  • Day Three – Will focus on childhood trauma and treatment. We will begin at 8:30am and end at 3:00pm.

Presenters:

Stephanie Sacks is the Clinical Director of Therapy Services with the Sexual Assault Center of Pierce County where she has worked for the past 13 years. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies and is licensed with the state and certified with the National Board of Certified Counselors as a Mental Health Therapist. 

Alison Sands, LICSW earned her MSW at Simmons School of Social Work in Boston. She moved out to Seattle and after working in various outpatient settings, then began working at Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress (HCSATS). At HCSATS, she has provided evidenced based clinical services to children families and adults. She has also provided supervision, consultation and training.

Objectives:

Goal of Day 1 is to further develop an understanding the underlying conditions surrounding sexual assault and examines issues related to the dynamics of sexual victimization, rape culture, and anti-oppression theory.
The Goal of Day 2 is to further develop knowledge and skills related to trauma/treatment and clinical approaches pertaining to adult victims of abuse and assault,including examining issues around diagnosis, assessment, creating the therapeutic environment, and vicarious trauma.
The Goal of Day 3 is to further develop knowledge and skills related to trauma/treatment and clinical approaches pertaining to child victims of abuse and assault,including examining issues around diagnosis, assessment, creating the therapeutic environment, and vicarious trauma.

Training Hours & Credits:

This training will count as 23 CEU credits. You will receive 6 credits for the online portion and 17 credits for the in-person training; however, you cannot solely do one or the other.

Cost: 

  • Members:  There is no registration fee for WCSAP Program, Organizational and Individual Members or OCVA Sexual Assault Contractors.
