Washington Trafficking Prevention’s (WTP) work is focused on empowering youth by training adults and facilitating program in-schools and in out-of-school youth-serving agencies and empowering communities through community Coalitions Against Trafficking groups. The VISTA will fight poverty by helping end exploitation of the most vulnerable in our communities. The VISTA will do so by highlighting the need and strengthening the capacity for youth to join the fight against human trafficking.
Member Duties : The Youth Empowerment Program has 4 phases that the VISTA will help implement. The VISTA will support each of these phases as teachers, parents & students are engaged in the process of preventing human trafficking.
• Phase 1: Support the Program Director in training all school/youth-serving agency personnel to identify signs of trafficking, respond effectively and create a protective environment for young people;
• Phase 2: Educate parents/families on trafficking and give them a preview of the curriculum;
• Phase 3: Support the Program Director in training program facilitators from school/agency to lead the Take On: Youth Empowerment Program;
• Phase 4: NEW Youth Led Programming, which expands upon the Take On curricula young people have experienced with a built-in leadership opportunity to create an event or awareness campaign within their school or community.
