Description

Training participants will gain a further understanding of the impact of trauma on survivors of sexual assault as well as strategies to help mitigate the impact of trauma. Using an approach grounded in neurobiology and evidence informed practice, the range of trauma aftereffects will be explored including direct, vicarious and secondary trauma. The innate resilience of survivors and potential pathways for posttraumatic growth will be discussed. Participants will increase their understanding, experience and exposure to simple wellness skills and other mindfulness practices to increase capacities and build on existing resilience. Exercises, which will be a variety of guided, individual, group, and relational practices, will help participants build resilience for long-term work with survivors as well as provide tangible skills for direct work with survivors. No prior experience with mindfulness or meditation practices are necessary for this day of training.
